IT'S BEEN A MINUTE I KNOW and I hope everyone has been good and well. The blog topic tonight is going to be something near and dear to our mission.... giving back to communities in need. We call the service other names like helping our friends (we don't say homeless),volunteering at food banks and community shelter amongst other things. Let's get into what giving back to our communities really involve???
What does it mean to give back to the community?
Giving back to the community sometimes involves bringing people together and working toward a single cause. Instead of donating personal finances or proceeds, local organizations or citizens can plan large-scale fundraising events which raise awareness of a local need, encourage local unity, and bring in lots of money. For example... NCAPRI and partners Unity Festival in Lumberton, NC October 28th, 2023 at the Robeson County Fairgrounds(Plug moment lol).
What are the benefits of giving back?
A 'helper's high' for example, is when you can stimulate your brain's mesolimbic pathway, or reward center, while releasing endorphins. That can lead to a “helper's high” that boosts self-esteem, elevates happiness and combats feelings of depression. I can testify to this feeling for sure when I help give back to communities through food drives. The appreciation and thanks you coming from folks after receiving the blessings is what makes it worth it for sure. Food drive or food distribution is composed of a variety of companies, organizations and programs that collect food from producers, store it in warehouses, and then distribute the food to manufacturers, grocery stores, restaurants, cafeterias, government aid programs and more. Working with organizations that give back with pallets of food ranging from different types of produce, assorted grocery item boxes and protein bundles like chicken or pork, hot dogs and burgers boxes. These kinds of food drives are necessary resources that improve their overall quality of life.
Why is giving back to community important? It will enrich your life, familiarize you with your community, and connect you to people and ideas that will positively impact your perspective for the rest of your life. Helping your community is an opportunity for you to grow as a person, to better understand how you fit into the world around you.
I can honestly say that being apart of something great that helps so many people is fulfilling in many ways. See the smiles on peoples faces knowing that my community involvement can impact lives in a great way.
