TENNESSEE ANTI-DRAG LAW RULED AS UNCONSTITUTIONAL

What's up my ATMS, hope your weekend was delightful as you are. Let's talk about what's happening in the news this week with Tennessee being on the topic of discussion.

It appears that a federal judge in Tennessee has found that the state's anti-drag law - the first of its kind in the country - is unconstitutional. Kinda saw this coming from a mile away but glad this verdict came out just in time for pride and the community. The ruling came from U.S. District Judge Thomas Parker this past Friday. He argued the law is too vague and overly broad that also encourages discriminatory enforcement. Parker explained the law violates Americans' First Amendment right to free speech/freedom of expression. No majority of the Supreme Court has held that sexually explicit -but not obscene -speech receives less protection than political, artistic, or scientific speech. To the point : it is not against the law for adults to talk sex or dress in drag in front of children. The reason this law was all about in the first place. Not long ago, this law banned public drag/cabaret performances where children could see them altogether.

Now with this verdict, Pride events can go forward and with rejuvenate force as well. Business should not have to worry about being shutdown for hosting drag shows because it is a profitable business. Happy for a win during Pride month with families and supporters of L.O.V.E
